December 2024
Message From the President
First off, congratulations to the cast and crew of They Promised her the Moon. The play was beautifully directed by Katie Preston and wonderfully acted and staged by the cast and crew. Prior to opening weekend, The Girl Scouts of Rhode Island attended a benefit night and enjoyed a spirited talkback with the cast. What a terrific start to our 2024/2025 season!
Next on the boards is The Revlon Girl co-directed by Lynne Collinson and Karen Besson. The show opens on Decembers 6th. Beginning with The Revlon Girl, our productions will be accessible to the deaf and hearing impaired. Congratulations to Board of Manager member Carol Allen and our Technical Director, Dan Clement for their vision and dedication to making this happen. The Production Committee has been doing a fantastic job keeping the season running smoothly. The 3rd show of the season, I Hate Hamlet, begins rehearsals soon and our musical production of Into the Woods has been cast. Over 100 people auditioned for Into the Woodsand each night of auditions was like a mini-production on its own.
Get your tickets online here for The Revlon Girl, this one is sure to sell out, and bring a friend. Or call Liz in the office to have her arrange your seats.
A good time was had by all. Food, champagne and theater – what could be better? On November 3rd the Vice President’s Committee hosted our annual Presidents’ Reception to welcome new members and recognize all the Players previous Presidents. It was wonderful to see so many new members. My thanks to all who attended for making them feel welcome.
October 26th was a night of Jazz and spoken word poetry at the Barker Playhouse. In partnership with Newport Live! We hosted the Amandola Freedom Ensemble from South Africa. Newport Live! is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization like The Players whose mission is to bring diverse music to the Rhode Island community. Everyone in attendance was mesmerized by this performance and we’re looking forward to more partnership opportunities.
A night of swing music and dancing is coming to The Barker Playhouse! On Saturday January 11 the playhouse will be converted to a 1940’s night club where the 18 piece big band ROMPS - Retired Old Musicians Playing Swing- will hold a fundraising concert for us. Tickets are $50.00 and are available for purchase on our website. All monies raised at this event will be used to help fund the Listening, Sound and Lighting Technology of the theater.
As this calendar year ends, we invite you to consider making a tax-deductible donation to The Players. Your generosity can make a profound difference in our ability to bring captivating stories to life on stage. Whether it’s $25, $100, or more, every contribution helps us create the unforgettable performances that you’ve come to love. To make your donation, please visit our website at Playersri.org. We are grateful for every single dollar of support you can offer.
Thank you for being an essential part of The Players family. Together, we can continue to enrich our community through the magic of theater.
Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season. See you at the theater!
